advocating the need for scientific journalism Description: * I am proposing two talks, please accept less than or equal to one of them. A few weeks ago I hatched a plan to educate myself in a more structured manner on what exactly Wikileaks stands for, its history, and its possible futures with the idea of developing a more concrete and informed opinion. I spent awhile digesting the Wikipedia page on Wikileaks before deciding I wanted to fact check its assertions and that its references might serve as a springboard the next step in my studies. With 268 references it looked to be a meaty task and not wanting to burn out my eye-bulbs on reading so much on screen I wrote a python script which combs all urls referenced on a page and adds their content to my Instapaper account and in turn to my Kindle. I then proceeded to algorithmically slog through reading each and every citation. This talk will not be about the opinions with respect to WikiLeaks developed in the course of this research. Rather, I will concentrate on the novel research methodology and advocate the concept of scientific journalism, relying on media articles run across during the course of this research to illustrate the need to cite primary sources wherever possible. http://cosmicrays.wordpress.com/2010/12/11/wikileaks-research-project-midpoint-report/
