Presented at Rocky Mountain Information Security Conference 2025 by

Following the success of my previous talk, Cybersecurity Lessons from Jurassic Park, we will once again dive into Michael Crichton's work to learn about modern and age-old cybersecurity challenges, this time with a focus on emerging threats like infostealers. While cybersecurity professionals often talk about how not to get hacked, we are often ill-prepared to deal with the conditions after a successful compromise. Drawing parallels with the groundbreaking novel and movie, we will discuss the various points of failure within a security system, highlighting recent incidents affecting critical infrastructure, with real-world tests that show the susceptibility of Windows Defender and other common EDR solutions to being bypassed.
