As a pinball enthusiast and lifelong hacker, I have waited many years to find a way to converge my two favorite hobbies. In the Spring of 2020, I was the first person to bring a modern pinball machine to a security conference for the purpose of identifying vulnerabilities in IoT pinball machines. With very little effort I learned that quite a lot can go wrong and the impacts can have consequences. I also ran into the same pitfalls that many in our industry have experienced when finding and attempting to disclose a vulnerability. This talk will cover my experience in hacking pinball machines, the vulnerabilities I identified, and the lessons I learned in the process.
