Welcome to the "Empowering ML via Integrating Security Experts" workshop! In this interactive session, we'll explore how to apply the Human in the Loop (HITL) process to protect against a DDoS attack. Protecting against DDoS attacks often involves setting up a security policy that defines certain thresholds. Since DDoS attacks are characterized by high volumes of traffic, when the traffic surpasses the specified thresholds, it is typically a sign of an ongoing attack. HITL involves incorporating expert opinions into the machine learning workflow to improve the model's predictions. In this workshop, we'll discuss how to collaborate with engineers as a core part of the machine learning process to create a mechanism that automatically predicts the best security policies. We'll walk you through the different stages of the project, from data gathering, model training to finding the evaluation metric that makes the most sense for your security needs. Along the way, we'll discuss the challenges we faced and how we overcame them. We'll also show you how to use a similar process for any heuristic or machine learning project you have. You'll leave this workshop with a deeper understanding of HITL and machine learning in general. You'll also have the opportunity to work with other attendees to apply HITL to a sample dataset and model. This hands-on experience will give you the skills and confidence to apply HITL to your own projects and drive better results faster. Join us for this exciting workshop and take your machine learning skills to the next level!
