Traffic within and between datacenters is exploding, creating significant challenges and demands on the optical networking infrastructure used to interconnect our global datacenter networks. Datacenter interconnect is now the primary application that is driving innovation in the optical networking industry, pushing the leading vendors to previously unimaginable levels of performance while simultaneously embracing simplified, open and more modular building practices from the datacenter world. This presentation will review this bandwidth explosion, the challenges this brings to the optical domain and the latest performance and security innovations from the optical networking industry in response to this datacenter interconnect bandwidth explosion.
