Presented at CS4CA 2020 by

The shift to remote work for industrial organizations has been underway for some time – with a promise of lower cost and greater safety as the two primary business drivers. However, this shift is also not without risks to reliability, to profitability, and also, somewhat paradoxically, to safety. The COVID-19 pandemic has been a catalyst for increasing this transformation of work, but it has also exposed weaknesses in processes and tools to support it. Enabling greater capabilities for remote work in industrial operations while addressing these weaknesses may be the difference between achieving long-term competitive advantage or at least parity to survive. In this session, we will explore the tools and process changes necessary to enable effective, secure, and safe remote operations. Attendees will come away with specific recommendations they can further develop within their organizations to help guide decisions and investments. The presentation will also review lessons learned on challenges to anticipate, pitfalls to avoid, and best practices for reducing potential cybersecurity risks and ensuring process safety.
