In 1984, security in computer systems really started to develop, and so did the technology alongside it. We went from using the cloud, or mainframe as it was called back then, to using servers. Now 25 years later, we're back to using the cloud again! Over time, the definition of security has always remained the same, and so has its purpose, but as the technology has changed, so do the motivations, reasons and techniques continue to adapt and change as well. Mix that up with new blockchain and artificial intelligence technologies, new ways of making sense of old data, and the necessant need for everybody to consume the micro-services era like bacteria, then only do you get an idea of what we may find or see in the future! So what does this mean for security now and in the next 25 years, half a century away from what was predicted nearly 100 years ago in George Orwell’s classic novel 1984. This talk explains some of the things we should be likely to look out for in the next coming years, particularly around cloud computing.
