The iPhone is one of the most secure commercially available devices today. Apple has aggressively pursued hardware and software solutions to pre and post-exploitation security weaknesses to prevent all but the most determined attacker's from getting complete access to the device and the personal data it contains. This talk will be a tour of the last 5 years worth of major security enhancements - both in software and in hardware, and talk about the evolving complexity involved in developing a full-featured "jailbreak". The talk will consider the impact of various mitigations on both remote access (browser or no-click) and local access (USB-based) vectors, as well as discussing post-exploitation challenges, which in some cases are just as formidable as exploitation itself.
