A Technical case study on employee data theft. When key employees exfiltrate company trade secrets or intellectual property, this is becoming an ever increasing issue, especially when employees are leaving for a competitive firm or decide to start their own competing business. This has been affecting companies and organizations of all sizes from mom and pop shops to Fortune 500 companies and government agencies.This case study will focus on employee data theft through means of cloud platforms. We will examine some of the statistics, probabilities, and trends, as well as technical aspects such as investigative evidence and obstacles for incident responders, forensic investigators, and corporate IT security teams.
