Convergence: the integration of physical and cyber risks to enable cybercrime, financial crime and terrorism by well-organized and well-resourced adversaries. Data is the new currency for these organizations, enabling a more advanced, coordinated and effective global criminal economy than ever before.Data also represents a critical tool for intelligence and policing agencies and civil governments to detect and respond to these risks. Sir Robert Wainwright will describe the role of data in enabling these organizations to counter advanced criminal enterprises and nation states. This will be based in part on his experience with the transformation of Europol into a global cyber and financial crime intelligence powerhouse, supporting tens of thousands of investigations per year across the EU. He will also share his perspectives on the need to balance data utility with the evolving privacy expectations of citizens and governments in a complex and changing regulatory environment.
