This session will discuss IT and OT threats to autonomous cars, intelligent transportation systems, smart buildings, port and maritime security vulnerabilities, as well as traditional malware and IoT attacks, to offer both technological and policy-oriented recommendations to confronting vulnerabilities that smart cities will face over the next five to ten years. With this analysis, we assess the countermeasures that individuals, businesses, and regional and national governments must consider to sustain and improve the quality of life for city-dwellers. Over half of humanity resides in cities. With increasing standards of living and pervasive, connected, low-cost IoT deployed in every dimension of human experience, cities are becoming more aware – and can become more responsive to people’s needs. Effective information security across this landscape will build trust in governments. Weak or flawed security will lead to distrust and social discontent.The solution combines technology with policy: investments in education and support services alongside reliable privacy and security tools. Understand how the threat landscape will evolve across the next decade, and how to provide a rapid, effective adaptation to this evolution – regardless as to whether you are in the public or private sector.The speaker will delve into several initiatives smart cities around the world are taking – from managing public services through Twitter to utilizing a low-cost citizen-sensor network. He will describe the common goals, successes, and failures – highlighting the lessons learned, not just lessons observed.The speaker will then reveal an architectural framework for securing smart cities, and IIoT based on current evidence and expected trends. Within this framework he will offer a suite of policy recommendations and technology suggestions (not vendor-specific) to realize a city that is not only smart but responsive, secure, trustworthy, and resilient.
