Business Email Compromise (BEC) is a global cyber crime phenomenon. It is a borderless crime and largely syndicated; meaning, the actors can originate the crime from one continent cutting across another or even several others and ending in another continent. Nigeria a country in Western Africa has over the years being identified as having active perpetrators of this crime as well as other cyber crimes. I intend to give a perspective on that as well as efforts made by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to combat the menace in the last 13 years. In conclusion, an instance of the EFCC’s efforts to combat cyber crime is the International Collaboration; the Joint EFCC-FBI BEC Investigation in an operation termed ‘operation wire-wire’ which was a successful take down of identified Nigerian Cyber Crime fraudsters involved in BEC which lead to the arrest of 29 suspects in June,2018.
