The Network and Information Systems Regulations 2018 (the NIS Regulations) came into force in the UK on 10 May 2018, implementing the EU Security of Network and Information Systems Directive. The NIS Regulations apply to only certain organisations, such as "operators of essential services" and "digital service providers". This talk will look at the NIS Regulations in some detail, examining which organization are affected; what the requirements of the Regulations are; in which circumstances a network /IS security breach should be reported; to whom and how the report should be made; the potential liability to a penalty; as well as other consequences of the Regulations.
