Machine Learning is all over the news these days, from Amazon’s product recommendations to fighting financial fraud to predicting seizures. It seems that every problem in the world can be solved with a little “machine learning”. But what is machine learning at its core? What class of problems lend themselves to machine learning methods? What are the best uses of machine learning in information security? How can you test and evaluate a security solution that incorporates machine learning? In this talk, I’ll provide a brief history of machine learning, distinguish it from other types of knowledge or AI based systems, and share with you where you can expect to see machine learning popping up in your information security tools.
