Let's step outside the political rhetoric and partisanship battleground of the 2016 POTUS campaign and take a "lessons learned" walk through the many InfoSec-related events that occurred along the way. Although the DNC hacks dominated the cyber news there were many smaller incidents that deserve to be recognized and considered through the lens of a security team doing an after-action report. Future candidates for major political positions now need to hire someone to worry over email servers, OSINT, disinformation, data mining, database security, spear-phishing, website security, protecting PII, and whether your mistakes will fuel an escalation of cyber war.
