When Steve Jensen joined Scottrade in 2015 to serve as their new CISO, it was a particularly unique opportunity, under particularly unique circumstances. The financial giant had just received notification from the FBI that several years earlier they had experienced a massive breach, affecting more than four and a half million customers. Primarily focused on protecting Scottrade clients, Jensen’s first year on the job was rich with valuable lessons learned in leading a multibillion-dollar organization through such an ordeal. With insights into leading IT and security teams through stressful times; managing PR-, legal- and customer-focused messaging; and communicating with the board and executives, Jensen shares his many lessons learned in navigating the myriad aspects of Scottrade’s breach response.
