Not Even One Shade of Gray: Stop Tolerating Compromise in Security

Presented at Converge 2016 by

The state of today’s enterprise security practices varies wildly in terms of effectiveness in warding off increasingly aggressive and technologically creative cybercriminals. Security infrastructures are under resourced and under-implemented, with little ongoing consideration being given to the alignment between holistic security and effective IT functionality. This has created fertile ground for the efforts of criminals. As a result we are seeing an explosive growth in the frequency and reach of cybercrime around the world. As security experts, it is our job to stop this, but it’s clear that our old ways aren't working. Enterprise security needs to evolve from its history of being purely reactive in nature, to being able to compete with the cybercrime industry with a radical proactive approach. This is what we must do if we are to have a fighting chance, much less win this battle outright. In this session, Rich Boyer, CISO at NTT Innovation Institute (NTT i3), will discuss new approaches and ways of thinking needed to include proactive threats assessment; looking at security as an expert service, and building communities of sharing around cybercrime threats ad solutions. To stay competitive and prepare for the future of cybercrime innovation, security professionals and enterprise leaders need to be just as agile, collaborative and inventive as their criminal competitors.
