Protecting the public from loss of personal information through data breaches quickly emerged as a priority for Attorney General George Jepsen after taking office in 2011. He created a Privacy Task Force, since elevated to department status, to investigate breaches and educate the public. He also proposed changes to Connecticut's breach notification law and additional protections for consumers — including at least one year of free identity theft prevention services to Connecticut residents whose name and Social Security numbers are compromised. Jepsen will talk about what companies need to do to protect against and respond to a data breach.
