The Internet of Things was the most hyped term in technology in 2014 according to Gartner. In order for the Internet of Things to achieve its potential of billions of connections solution providers will need to consider the necessary enablers to create successful solutions. Key enablers such as Billing and Charging , Device management , Network Management and of course, Security. By its nature, IoT will connect to many sensors , multiple gateways , different networks and the internet. This will present security and privacy problems in what will be a complex and fragmented environment. Some sensors of not have the ability for two-way communications and some networks like WiFi are not secure. Mobile Network Operators have played a leading role in the development of Machine-to- Machine (M2M) communications and have generally secure environments. They are expected to play a leading, though not an exclusive, role in IoT bringing their experience of managing billions of customers and connections. The GSMA will be working with the Mobile Operators , Device Manufacturers , Platform providers, Service providers , Regulatory and Standards authorities to design a set of IoT Security Guidelines that can be used by everyone in the IoT Market.
