1 in 4 people actively use social media today and the number is projected to hit 1 in 3 by 2017. Social media has made a major impact to the Internet landscape for almost a decade now. Due to its popularity and accessibility for the novice user, it has been used as a hot new launch pad for cyber criminals. This presentation identifies the necessity of social media to the business and enterprise, provides a cost analysis for attackers who leverage these platforms, and offers insight into known attacks we have found in our research trying to battle these criminals.
