Timeline analysis can be an important digital forensics analysis technique. At previous OSDFCons, there have been presentations about collecting temporal data from various sources, but there has not been much available for open source tools to help visualize the results besides text-based methods. This talk will cover a new Autopsy™ timeline module that focuses on visualizing large amounts of event data. The module provides several display techniques to help reduce information overload, such as description zooming and filtering. The timeline includes temporal data from file system activity and other artifacts, such as web activity and the registry.
