Car manufacturers as well as telecoms operators and technology providers are facing more and more privacy and security challenges. Car connected services offer remarkable opportunities in terms of new services, and soon, each new car will be equipped with a black box and a SIM card by default. However, privacy implications are huge, since even the very basic question of who the data subject is may be tricky to answer, as one car's owner is not always that car’s driver. Other issues to be considered are ownership of data in the context of navigation and in-car analytics, interaction between location-based services and social media, new business models for car sharing based on localisation data, big data analytics of location data, risks of data misuse and surveillance, owner and driver profiles in relation to telematics and insurance premium. Legislators are trying to address the car connected services scenario, and businesses may find themselves overwhelmed by uncertainty and puzzling rules. The goal of this presentation is to provide an overview of the legal framework and a practical guideline for stakeholders. What you’ll take away: · Analysis of applicable legal framework · The features of car connected services triggering legal issues · Practical implementation guidance
