Anxious to leverage its vast stores of data to drive strategic decision-making, TIAA-CREF tasked Tuhin Dutt with building an information infrastructure quickly, and from scratch. Despite the organization’s eagerness for an analytics program, a strategic road map to support the bank’s long-term needs for scalability was critical. What followed was a delicate balancing act for Dutt, whetting his business partners’ appetites in the more immediate term, while ensuring the long-term strategy included the right people strategy and the right process and technology road maps. Dutt shares his best practices and lessons learned in developing TIAA-CREF’s holistic and strategic data road map.
