The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) has a number of tools at its disposal including enforcement, rulemaking and supervisory authority that reaches many industry sectors and many products, such as banks, consumer reporting agencies, debt collectors, student loans, payday lending, mortgages and other lending activities. The CFPB also has broad authority to combat unfair, deceptive or abusive acts or practices, as well as authority under numerous consumer regulatory statutes, including privacy-oriented statutes such as the Fair Credit Reporting Act, the Fair Debt Collections Practices Act and Title V of the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act.
