One way to mitigate the security risks of cloud services involves data encryption. While encryption preserves the confidentiality of the underlying data, there are many tradeoffs to consider. Come discuss the benefits and drawbacks of encrypting data in the cloud and find out where encryption fits in the broader context of cloud security. We will also consider the extent to which techniques from the cryptographic literature can be applied for encrypting data within cloud services.
