Identity at Scale: Bridging Gaps between Physical and Logical, Token and Cloud

When the first user name and password was keyed in a browser window, physical access cards were already thirty-plus years old. Cloud identity, strong auth for web apps, and enterprise IdM are newborns in the ID spectrum when one considers prox badges, smart cards and weigand protocols. These two generations have not readily bridged the proverbial gap. But they must. Cloud identity’s low-friction focus is essential to a truly mass-scale identity initiative. And the knowledge gained from decades of experience issuing and lifecycle managing strongly vetted credentials cannot be ignored. To begin to address the holistic identity challenge, we need to bridge the gaps and pull from both the cloud and physical arenas.
