State of the NSTIC

Citigroup, LexisNexis, the Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF), Aetna, Neiman Marcus, Ping, Oracle, Symantec and the AARP walked into a bar. Citigroup said “so you all agree on something, right?” Everybody nodded their head. A lousy punchline but a true story – in the three years since President Obama issued the National Strategy for Trusted Identities in Cyberspace (NSTIC), all of these organizations and many others have been working together to improve the security, privacy and convenience of online transactions. Today a dozen NSTIC pilots are advancing the Identity Ecosystem across health care, finance, telecom, retailers and government; the Federal Cloud Credential Exchange (FCCX) is helping bring new government apps online, leveraging commercial IDPs, and; the Identity Ecosystem Steering Group (IDESG) has made significant progress on a framework of standards and policies to catalyze the Ecosystem. This workshop will explore the evolution of NSTIC from a government-driven effort to one that is increasingly "in the wild," with dozens of private sector stakeholders seizing the initiative to advance the Identity Ecosystem.
