Attackers, Plateaus and the Future of Information Security

Presented at CISOSoCal 2014 by

There has been a major shift in the threat landscape: new actors, different targets, and methods that exploit both technical and human weaknesses. The future of information security will require an adaptive and agile approach. CISOs will need to familiarize themselves with the “plateau effect” — why something that used to be effective eventually stops working. Present in all aspects of life, this effect is accelerated in information security because the adversary is able to adapt. Through examples from psychology, insurance and competitive sports, Hugh Thompson will provide insights on how to counteract the plateau effect to deal with a highly adaptive adversary.
