Over the last year the digital currency Bitcoin has increased in value by a hundredfold and been the subject of much media reporting, including the fall of a massive online drug marketplace and a number of brazen heists.The unique digital nature of Bitcoin allows us to track every transfer historically and visualize these multimillion-dollar thefts in a way never possible in traditional financial networks. We will also focus on understanding how these thefts were performed (by looking at information on the Tactics, Techniques and Procedures used) and show what information security people can learn from this rapidly changing criminal ecosystem and apply to their own defenses - most importantly in cloud deployments.
