While most of the world's DDoS mitigation has focused on protection against DDoS attacks flood the network layer DDoS application has been increasing its use by attackers. In this lecture, we will cover the basic types of DDoS application, how to identify and exploit vulnerabilities, and how to defend against DDoS application layer. Mike Smith @ rybolov serves as director for the Response Team to the Client Security Incidents Akamai and is responsible for leading a team of Incident Response and web security researchers studying the tactics, techniques and procedures for web attackers and apply this knowledge to help protect the Akamai customers during events such as invasions of sites, data breaches, and distributed denial of service. Prior to his current role, Mr. Smith served as Akamai Security Evangelist and as a point of primary contact between clients and staff safety information, helping customers understand both the program of internal security and the unique safety features and the capabilities of the Akamai product portfolio and solutions based on cloud.
