The topic is a three-year project (2011-2013) introducing cyber situation awareness (CSA) into the VAST Challenge an annual public contest in the visual analytics community. The VAST Challenge committee devised cyber scenarios (for fictional networks) along with supporting datasets that are freely and publicly available for educational/research use. The main goal of the VAST Challenge was to stimulate visualization solutions. However a wider goal is to contribute the data sets for broad research benefits. The 2013 challenge includes netflow data.
