Infosec is a wide landscape. There are pentesters, malware analysts, QSA's, firewall administrators, consultants, and everything in between. Whatever your job is, there's clearly a great deal of money to be made in this profession. But what about the foundation of what we're trying to accomplish. Once upon a time, infosec (or whatever it was called) was ultimately about making systems more secure. That goal has been misplaced and maligned by some along the way, but there are still some in the industry who want to actually create demonstrable change in the security of the computer systems we use and rely on every day. The big question becomes "What can I do to make a difference?" GIven how complex a landscape information security is and how constrained our jobs can be, the answer to that question is often demoralizing. However, regardless of your current job, your location, or skill level, there ARE things you can do to make our world more secure. Some are obvious, some you may never have thought of before. This talk will explore what YOU can do to effect positive change (and maybe even inspire others to do the same).
