Collaborate, Innovate, Secure

Day in and day out we are working for and with companies to build security programmes, identify/asses/mitigate risk, find security flaws in software (and hardware), deliver penetration tests, create security solutions, ... In a day and age where we are feeling a status quo looming over our heads, I believe it is time to change the perception that we\'ve reached rock bottom. I believe the next few years are defined by the three verbs "Collaborate", "Innovate", "Secure". We have a moral obligation to collaborate, across natural, physical and cultural boundaries. This holds true on a political level where countries have to work together to keep critical infrastructure secure but also on an organizational level where we are challenged each day to cooperate with developers, system administrators and business people to embed security in their DNA. It especially holds true for our community, where we have seen several examples of how real collaboration - free of corporate or government interest- has delivered top-notch research. Secondly, we have seen innovation grind to a screeching halt in information security. We know what doesn\'t work. After all, we build it ourselves. Again, this doesn\'t only focus on products and solutions but also, and maybe even more so, how we make security part of the organization. As companies are building their next business model on top of networked technologies, we have to innovate the way they look at security and what security can contribute to and mean to the business. Lastly, I want to emphasize how both collaboration and innovation will lead us to an ability to secure. With both a will to collaborate and a vision to innovate engrained in our organizations and communities, we will be ready to work towards a secure and connected world.
