Abstract: This talk will reflect a snapshot of my experience with the evolution of mobile devices and services and their security and privacy aspects in various academic, industrial and governmental projects. Today, smartphones (tablets) offer more opportunities for reaching higher security standards than it was the case with commodity PC platforms, since they provide well-defined APIs, clear development processes and kits for Application Developers as well as basic, yet coarse-grained security framework. Based on this I will discuss some of the recent research results and works on smartphone security and privacy (including that of my team) as well as the requirements of enterprises on the deployment of these devices for corporate purposes. Pointing out the huge gap between the academic research and practice I aim at discussing smart security and privacy for smart devices.
