Obviously social networks are popular. This popularity (and explosive growth rate) coupled with the accessible APIs and environments that foster a false sense of trust make it easy to spammers and scammers to exploit users, but it also gives those with the right tools access to a massive amount of data. We will discuss the scale and history of malicious activity on social media, show some interesting findings, and talk about building your own analysis toolkit for social media.
