Windows 7 implements several new features that have the potential to impact rogue security software goading techniques. User Account Controls have new capabilities in Windows 7 along with taskbar pop-up controls not available in earlier versions of Windows. Additionally, updates to the operating system changes the requirements for some malcode to run in the OS. A multitude of lab tests within Windows 7 was performed against threats such as Zeus, Gumblar, Mebroot and a variety of rogue anti-virus programs. Results were encouraging, with interesting findings not expected prior to testing. Read the paper and attend the session to learn more about the interesting findings from this focused research.
