With the transition to RFID enabled travel documents (including the ePassport and the eID) in Europe, a correct implementation of the authentication and verification of passport technologies is necessary. The complexity if the technology can cause a myriad of security issues in the identification. Our presentation examines the eMRTD security controls and suggests correct implementations to enable identification as a mechanism. We also examine the dangers of incorrect implementations and the resulting consequences.
