As surveillance from governments, private entities, and criminals has created a wild west of exploitation, I believe there is a need to discuss the solutions to prevent and mitigate surveillance. This talk is geared towards an audience that has some knowledge of personal privacy. However, I will touch base on the foundational aspects of privacy at the beginning of the talk, thus accounting for newcomers to privacy as well. I will end the talk by giving practical workflows of how I leverage privacy in my day-to-day life without sacrificing convenience. Some topics covered in this talk will be the definition of modern privacy, examples of surveillance, how to opt out of surveillance at an advanced level, and getting more control over your digital footprint. Some specifics include the following: Flock surveillance, Linux hardening, social media privacy, surveillance capitalism, GrapheneOS usage, etc.
